The adventure south continued with a stop at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island. I toured the facility taking in their educational center and the rehabilitation tanks for their sea turtles and Diamondback Terrapins. The chief surgeon and the director at the center is Dr. Terry Norton. I had the privilege of hearing him speak at SERSTM. The first three images are from GSTC.
I then headed to Melbourne, Florida where I got a behind the scenes tour of their sea turtle center there (not open to the public) The photo of the green sea turtle with the barnacles is for reference for my work. The sea turtle is a current patient there. I then walked through the small but mighty Brevard Zoo. I am only showing a few of the images – but again I cannot over state that this is a unique place and should be on everyone’s list to visit. Well well done. And they are a “green” zoo. Wooden spoons to eat ice cream with. No straws or plastic lids or plastic bags!!! The giraffe bag pictured is made from recycled plastic water bottles and the rhino ornament made from a tin can from an artist in Zimbabwe. A great assortment of books – not a lot – but nice selection!!!!
